San Francisco, California, August 2004.
While the human population happily or miserably went about their usual existence, The War begun. Exactly when it started, as well as who started it, depends entirely on who you ask at any given time. There are, however, some mostly undisputed facts.
A master vampire took revenge upon Duncan, the Skoll of the Lukoi, for assaulting on of his minions. Duncan was forced to watch his wife raped and killed. Too late to save his wife, the Skoll broke free of their restraints and killed the master and three of his minions before Duncan, himself, was killed.
The Master of the City, Solange, did not take this well. Another wolf was taken and slated for death. This was Grace, girlfriend of Lewis, the pack Freki. Whether fortunate for Grace or not, Solange discovered that this wolf's blood gave power others did not. While she was kept and tortured, Duncan’s heart was torn from his body. His head was severed and sent to the Ulfric literally on a silver platter. Thus began The War, officially.
After this, it became a problem to hide the bodies. The Pard tried to intervene, but their leader had been killed and without another to lead them and protect them, they pulled back and kept to themselves. The small group of hyenas fought with the vampires, as they usually side with the winning team. The Rodere determined they would remain neutral. Some vampires, though unable to disobey Solange directly by virtue of a blood bond, hid during the fighting, refusing to participate. No other faction of shifters or preternaturals was large enough to be a real threat to the vampires.
Over a period of three months or so, as the war dragged on, two CEOs of large corporations went missing. An unusually large number of middle class disappearance reports were filed. All werewolves, all unable to be solved. The RPIT could watch their list of registered preternaturals getting smaller and smaller, and were powerless to stop the genocide. Not only did they not want to alarm the human public, but they did not know how to stop the slaughter.
Ultimately, the pack was decimated. Realizing at last that if the Master of the City could do this to one faction, she could and likely would do it to another, the Rodere finally took action and killed Solange on November 15th, 2004.
The Rodere released Grace back to the empty Lobos Creek clan grounds the week before the full moon. Duncan’s son, Lex, got word of the massacre and returned to the city from time spent away. A leopard now himself, Lex pulled together the Roca del Sello pard, opening it up to all felines that needed someone to protect them. The vampires, freed from the power of Solange, began to gather in small groups for protection while the city has no Master. The hyenas that survived crept back across the Golden Gate to hide for awhile. The Rodere went back to keeping to themselves. The preternatural community waited with bated breath…
On the night of the full moon, they came. First to arrive were two alpha male lukoi, who met Grace and were able to keep her from killing herself in grief. Singly and in groups, wolves have begun to seek a home in San Francisco to build a new Lobos Creek pack. At the same time, battles began between the various groups of vampires, challenging to see who was strongest, who could take the city and be Master of the City.
Where things go from here is anybody’s guess.
